Why piping is a different job from surface decoration
为什么嵌条和表面装饰是两回事
Most rhinestone work on a garment sits on top of the fabric. Piping doesn't. A rhinestone diamond rope used as piping gets caught between two layers at the seam, with only its stone face showing along the fold. That changes what you need from the trim. It has to be dimensionally stable along its length, because any stretch during sewing shows up as a wavy line on a finished lapel. It has to tolerate the iron. And its base tape has to be wide enough to be gripped by the seam allowance without the stitch line crowding the first row of stones.
服装上的水钻活儿大多是贴在面料表面的。嵌条不是。水钻抽条做嵌条，是被夹在接缝的两层之间，只有钻面沿着折边露出来。这就对辅料提出了不一样的要求：它沿长度方向必须尺寸稳定，车缝时哪怕拉长一点点，做出来的驳头就是一条波浪线；它得经得住熨斗；底带还得够宽，让缝份咬得住，同时压线不能挤到第一排钻。
Half-round for seams, full-round for exposed edges

The two forms of diamond rope solve different problems here, and picking wrong is the most common mistake we see on first samples.
Half-round rope carries stones on one side and leaves the other side as flat backing tape. That flat side is what you want inside a seam. It lies down under the seam allowance, the presser foot rides it cleanly, and the stone face turns outward along the fold. Use it for princess seams, panel joins, shoulder seams, and the roll line of a lapel where the rope reads as a raised edge rather than a standalone cord.
Full-round rope wraps stones all the way around a core. It reads as a jewelry cord, not an edge. Put it where it stands proud of the garment: along the outer edge of a lapel that has no facing seam to hide into, around a collar stand, or as a loose cord laid on a tuxedo-style trouser stripe. Full-round is the right call when the rope is meant to be seen as an object, and the wrong call when you need it to disappear into a seam.
抽条的两种形态在这里解决的是不同的问题，选错了是我们在头样上最常见到的毛病。
半圆抽条一面镶钻，另一面是平的底带。要夹进缝里，就得要这个平面。它在缝份底下服服帖帖，压脚走上去很顺，钻面顺着折边朝外翻。公主缝、拼片缝、肩缝、驳头翻折线这些位置都用它，抽条在这儿是一条凸起的边，不是一根独立的绳。
全圆抽条是把钻整圈包在芯上的。它看着就是一根首饰绳，不是一条边。哪儿要它明显凸出来就放哪儿：驳头外沿这种没有暗缝可藏的地方、领座一圈，或者像礼服裤侧条那样明着压一条。抽条要当一件东西被看见时，用全圆；要它藏进缝里消失掉时，全圆就是错的。
Turning the gorge and the lapel point
串口和驳头尖怎么转
Straight runs are easy. The two places that decide whether a jacket looks made or looks glued are the gorge line and the lapel point.
At the gorge, the collar meets the lapel at an angle, and a continuous rope pushed around that angle will kink and pop stones. Don't force it. Cut the rope, butt the two ends at the corner, and let the collar seam cover the joint. The eye reads a clean corner; a kinked rope reads as a defect from across a showroom.
The lapel point is tighter still. On a notch lapel the point can run under 45 degrees, and no rope with a rigid core will make that turn. Two options work. Either miter it the same way you'd miter a piping: cut, angle the two ends, and butt them at the tip. Or specify a rope with a cotton cord core instead of a PVC tube, which will ease around a wider point without buckling. We'd generally sample both on the first round and let the pattern maker decide, because it depends on how sharp your point is drafted.
直线段好走。真正决定一件外套看着是"做出来的"还是"粘上去的"，是串口和驳头尖这两处。
串口这儿领子和驳头成一个角，一根连续的抽条硬推过去，会打折、崩钻。别硬来。把抽条剪断，两个头在角上对接，让领缝把接口盖住。看的人看到的是一个干净的角；一根打了折的抽条，隔着一个展厅都能看出是次品。
驳头尖更紧。戗驳/平驳的尖角能到 45 度以内，任何硬芯抽条都转不过来。有两条路：一是像做普通嵌条一样拼角——剪断，两头切斜角，在尖上对接；二是指定用棉芯而不是 PVC 圆管的抽条，角度稍宽的尖它能顺过去，不会鼓包。头轮打样我们一般两种都做，交给版师定，因为这取决于你的尖角画得多利。
Sewn into the seam, or set on the surface
夹缝车缝，还是表面固定
Sewing the rope into the seam is the durable answer and the one tailoring factories default to. The base tape goes into the seam allowance, the stitch runs alongside the stone row, and the trim is held by the same construction that holds the jacket together. Nothing to peel. It does mean the trim has to be positioned before the panel is closed, so it belongs in the sewing sequence, not at finishing.
Surface-setting has its place on stage and performance jackets, where the design wants a rope crossing a panel rather than following a seam. Adhesive alone won't survive a season of wear on a structured jacket, so tack it down at intervals. A stitch every few centimetres through the base, hidden between stone rows, holds it flat without reading as topstitching.
One thing to settle early with your factory: pressing. Rhinestone trim and a hot iron on a hard buck don't mix. The standard fix is a pressing cloth and a soft ham, pressing from the underside so the stones never take direct heat and direct pressure at the same time.
把抽条夹进缝里车，是耐久的做法，也是做西装的厂子默认的做法。底带进缝份，针迹沿着钻排走，辅料靠外套本身的结构固定，没有可以掀起来的地方。代价是它必须在合片之前定位，所以这道工序属于缝纫流程，不能留到后整理。
表面固定在舞台服、演出外套上有它的用处——设计要的是一条抽条横穿衣片，而不是顺着缝走。结构性外套穿一季，光靠背胶撑不住，得隔一段钉一针。每隔几厘米在底带上钉一针，藏在钻排之间，能压平又不像明线。
有一件事要早点和工厂说定：熨烫。水钻辅料和硬烫台上的高温熨斗合不来。通行的解法是垫烫布、用软烫包，从反面烫，让钻粒不会同时挨到直接的高温和直接的压力。

For a piping application, the spec that matters isn't the same as for a surface trim. Give us these and the first sample usually lands:
- Form: half-round or full-round, and if full-round, the core (cotton cord or PVC tube).
- Rope width and row count, plus the finished exposed height you want above the seam.
- Base tape width, checked against your seam allowance.
- Stone size and colour, with the plating tone matched to your buttons and hardware.
- Total metres per garment, broken down by seam, so we can plan cut lengths and reduce offcuts.
- Whether the ends will be buried in a seam or need finishing.

Piping is unforgiving in a useful way. Get the form and the corners right and a rhinestone diamond rope will hold a jacket's line for the life of the garment. Get them wrong and it shows from ten metres away, which is exactly why it's worth sampling twice.
嵌条这活儿不容错，但这种不容错是有价值的。形态选对、转角处理对，一条水钻抽条能陪着外套撑住那条线，撑到衣服穿坏为止。做错了，十米外就看得出来——这也正是它值得多打一轮样的原因。
